ABOUT CASIE CHANG

My name is Cathryn “Casie” Chang and I am running for Frederick County Council Member At-Large. I am running to bring common sense back to Frederick County. What I am seeing now is out of control spending, taxing and lack of local government common sense throughout Frederick County.  It is time we bring back common sense to our local government. No more wasting time or money on an agenda that divides our communities. We need to support our first responders and law enforcement officers and we need to ensure that our schools maintain a high standard of education. We need to stand together and support our communities and each other.

My name is Cathryn “Casie” Chang and I am running for Frederick County Council Member At-Large.   I live in Urbana with my husband, Dulles and 3 sons.

Dulles and I have been married for 19 years, 18 of those years living in Frederick.  We have three wonderful sons:  Alex and the twins, Cameron and Kadon.  This will be a very exciting year for us because Alex will be graduating from high school.  Cameron and Kadon are very active with their Scout troop and continue to work hard towards attaining their Eagle Badge.  Our family participates in many volunteer opportunities, most of them through the Scout troop.

I have a BS In Human Resource Management. I have worked for FCPS as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for almost 10 years and just recently made a lateral move to a Registrar position.  I am very excited to start this new position within FCPS.  I am the fundraising coordinator for my sons Scout troop.

I grew up in the small town of Poolesville, located in Montgomery County.  Growing up so close to Frederick, I have seen all of the changes to Frederick County throughout the years. What I am seeing now is out of control spending, taxing and lack of local government common sense throughout Frederick County.

I am often asked what my experience is in politics.  I give people a quick run down of my current and previous work experience:

  • I work for FCPS and was a Special Education Instructional Assistant for almost 10 years. Recently I made a lateral move and am now a Registrar.  I am a member of the Frederick Association of Support Staff Employees union.
  • I am the fundraising coordinator for my son’s scout troop.
  • I am a member of the Frederick County Conservative Club and Republican Club of Frederick County.

Previous work experience consisted of:

  • Regulatory Analyst for National Association of Securities Dealers
  • Executive Assistant for a Director at Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  • Office Manager for Master of the Family Department for the Montgomery County Circuit Court.

Then I say, look what “Experience” has brought you thus far.  When I decided to run, it is not a decision that I made lightly. I firmly believe that I do not have the right to complain about something unless I am willing to do something about it. Experience has gotten our county where it is today. I want to help work towards change on a local level. I honestly believe that nationwide change starts in our own backyards. I focus on what I can impact the most and I feel county council is a great place to start.

We need Council members who are truly dedicated, to being fiscally responsible for our county’s budget while providing tax cuts. It is time we have a Council that will take the time to review taxes and fees that our residents and small businesses are being charged and look at ways to eliminate  unnecessary expenses.  It is time we bring back common sense to our local government.

No more wasting time or money on an agenda that divides our communities.  We need to stand together and support our communities and each other.  We need to support our officers and as your elected official I would not interfere with routine traffic stops that put the lives of our officers at risk.  We need to ensure that our schools maintain a high standard of education.  Lastly, although improving I-270 is a state issue, the state won’t do a thing unless we have strong voices on our council to continue to demand improvements.

Did you know:

Our Council voted to increase the budget by 8% for 2022.

Our Council did not lower property taxes knowing that the housing market is skyrocketing and the County will already make much more money because of that and yet they still didn’t lower our property taxes.

Our Council initiated and conducted an audit of Sheriff Jenkins 287g program.

Our Council voted to approve an increase in builder fees. That fee will be passed down to the home buyer.

So, I ask you, have you had enough?  If you have then vote for me for County Council Member At-Large and together we can bring common sense back to Frederick County.
